JOHN T. McCAULLEY
FINE ART

Artist Statement
Growing up on the Door County peninsula of northeastern Wisconsin, I was surrounded by pristine and diverse landscape. The constant changing in weather and terrain made me conscious of how much power and beauty nature has.
Nature is unpredictable and we have no control over it. The things that appear to be concrete at one time can quickly become lost right before our eyes. Forces of nature give us a sense of wonder; an awareness and respect of the unknown and make us take into account the idea of uncertainty.

BEHIND THE ARTIST
I was born and raised in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, WI, and was outdoors ever since I can remember. I was either hunting, fishing, playing sports or getting into mischief on the Leist Century Farm. As well, I had a talent for drawing since I was very young but never took it seriously until I got into high school. There, my teachers really pushed me to consider it at the next level.
I attended UW - Stevens Point, where I graduated with a BFA degree in Fine Art, 2-D Emphasis in 2010. Originally, because I am such an avid outdoorsman, I planned on attending college for a degree in wildlife, but I changed my major at student orientation to fine art through the support from my teachers.
Line, texture, color and space are what is most evident in my work. My love for the outdoors, it's unpredictable weather, dramatic seasons and ever-changing landscape has influenced much of that.
I have a passion for the outdoors, music and art that has grown over my lifetime, and being from beautiful Door County has really let me enjoy all the things that I love.
